What is the time commitment?
Relationship Enrichment Services are offered in three different settings: classroom, couples support groups, and couple-to-couple mentoring. The program is 8-12 hours. Classroom and support group services typically meet two hours each week for six weeks. Couple-to-couple mentoring schedules are individualized.
We fight all the time. Are Healthy Marriages services for us?
All couples fight, right? Sure. And Healthy Marriages services will likely teach you how to speak your mind in healthy ways, even how to “fight fair.” But if you are in an abusive relationship, this class will not give you the kind of help you need.
For example, does your partner embarrass you with putdowns, control what you do, who you see or talk to, or where you go, take your money or refuse to give you money, threaten you, hurt you or your children, acts like the abuse is no big deal, that it’s your fault, or even deny doing it?
Answering yes to any of the above questions may mean you are in an abusive relationship, and a relationship education class will not give you the help you need. But you are not alone! For support and more information, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 or see our Links & Resources page for more information. All calls are confidential.
What is the difference between counseling and relationship education services?
See Counseling vs. Education.
What is the cost for Relationship Enrichment Services?
Healthy Marriages currently has funding to offer Relationship Enrichment Services at little or no cost to couples. We make every effort to make services affordable and accessible.
Will we have to talk about our relationship?
It’s your choice. Some couples talk, while others listen and learn. We ask couples to maintain the confidentiality of anything that is shared in the group.
Do children attend?
No. Relationship Enrichment Services are for adults only.
We want more – can we go through the program again?
All services use the same curriculum; therefore, attending the program again would be a repeat of the materials you have already covered. We can provide you with information on other programs offered in Albuquerque.
Our marriage is already great, why should we attend?
To keep your marriage great! As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Every couple experiences transitional stages (whether you just had your first child or you have recently become an empty-nester). Sometimes these life transitions can leave you feeling distant from your partner. Having a strong foundation will help you weather the storms. Healthy Marriages services are for couples in all stages – even if you have been married 30 years, these services can benefit you. No matter how good your relationship is, it can always be better. Come renew and reconnect at one of our events!
