Samaritan Center for Changing Families (SCCF) offers individual psychotherapy for children older than five years, adolescents, and adults. Therapy is also available for married, separated, and divorcing couples. SCCF also offers reintegration therapy for parents and children who have lost contact with each other.
We offer a range of approaches to assist parents. A brief description of our services follows:
Wise Parent Counseling: This approach is best suited for parents who are motivated to work cooperatively, and seek assistance and education in co-parenting. Wise Parent counseling is akin to facilitated mediation with an educational component. This approach has been effective in helping parents both in the short-term, to develop an initial Parenting Plan or to help parents resolve discrete issues whenever they arise. This process is confidential to third parties; the therapist will inform the court if the parents attend, but nothing more.
Co-Parenting Training for Couples: This is a structured psycho-educational format that can be used when the parents are in higher conflict. It follows a time limited (approximately twelve sessions) curriculum, includes “homework,” and there is a workbook for both parents. If the court requests, summary progress reports may be made available.
Cooperative Parenting Classes: SCCF offers classes for parents to prepare them to work together in the Wise Parent program, joint therapy, or on their own. These classes provide parent education, including information about the impact of conflict on children, post-separation parental communication and co-parenting skills.
Reintegration: Therapists work with parents and children who have become estranged over the course of family break-up.
Mediation and Facilitated Settlement: The Center accepts referral for settlement facilitation and mediation of all divorce and parenting issues.
Therapy and Counseling: SCCF provides therapy to individuals and couples going through divorce, break up of relationships and the stress of being in ongoing litigation. Clinicians are trained in the specific problems attendant to relationship failure, and can help clients adjust to the reconfiguration of their families. Services are also available for children.
